Chainsaw madness
This weekend I learned how to sharpen chainsaw blades. This has proven to be very valuable, saving me money by not having to replace blades everytime I would carelessly touch the blade to the ground. I have also learned that a new blade is not necessarily sharpest when new, I noticed right away that the blade I had sharpened was cutting alot faster than even the brand new one I had just finished ruining. It is very suprising how fast a blade will go dull with just the slightest of contact with dirt, sand, or other foreign matter. It turns out chainsaw blades are only for cutting wood. If the Texas chainsaw massacre movie was real, that guy would've had to change blades everytime he cut into anything or anyone! The other thing I've learned while sectioning this 60 foot long, 32" diameter oak tree is that chainsaw bar oil is a must! Not only oil in the reservoir that pumps oil onto the blade internally, but pouring oil directly onto the bar and into the cut works wonders too. More to come...
